Heres a site that shows the different flying foxes with good photos!
I have a "False Flying Fox", he is great at eating algae and super peaceful.

Siamese algae eater and Flying fox are different species. So is the false flying fox.
I dont know which would be a black line flying fox, you would have to check the pictures in the link to see for yourself. All 3 fish have a black line down the side, so I dont have any idea which they are selling.
Heres a pic of each for ya anyway:
Real Siamese Algae Eater<----True Siamese Algae Eater, peaceful, likes to school
sae.jpg" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">False Siamese Algae Eater <---this is the fish I have
Flying Fox<---this fish is aggressive to its own kind
Chinese Algae Eater <----this fish is aggressive when large
Hope this helps you and any others who are confused between these fishes!

the SAE has one black stripe going all the way to the end of its tail.

the flying fox looks like it has 3 stipes, one big black one and 2 skinny pale ones next to the black one.

thats how i tell them apart anyhoo.

Sneaky pete that flying fox pic isnt a flying fox. I have a flying fox. They dont have gold on their fins. Its more of a reddish tint with a little black on the top fin. Flying foxes are similar in agression to like a RTBS. They hate their own species, and anything that looks similar. They are very territorial and like to have caves to themselves. They can be very agressive to small fish but usually leave similar size or large fish alone entirely. They look very different from SAEs, or CAEs, IMO. They also dont have the sucker thing at all and very very rarely eat algae.

Actually that is a flying fox bearded, its a small picture, but I can clearly see the red on the fins and the black tip. Epalzeorhynchu Kallopterus. As I said with the arrow beside its picture, it is aggressive of its own kind. These fish are related to RTBS and Rainbow Sharks, and are probably just as aggressive, though nothing could compare to the evil rainbow shark I had. (it went back to the fish store after attempting to murder the new dwarf gouramis I had bought).
I was just supplying the dude who asked, with a basic picture of each, and info on them. I have a false flying fox/algae eater, but it still eats algae like its going outta style! I almost purchased a Flying fox, im glad I didnt though, my False Fox is very peaceful.

It looks like gold on the fins in the pic to me. and it looks more stubby looking. The flash ruined the red but I think this is a very good pic of my flying fox I took.

A flying fox's aggression level is nowhere near that of an RTS...

RTS will pick a fight with ANY fish of ANY size. Flying foxes are closely related, but while they are aggressive towards their own kind, they're not comparable to RTS...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

None. They are different names for the same species.

that is, unless one is a different species.
