I have a 30g with an angel, a few platies and guppies, a BN and some loaches. The tank just seems blah, like it needs something.

I'm open to suggestions. It's a planted tank with terra cotta pots. Other than the bottom feeders the fish are blue, yellow or orange.

I don't want danios, white clouds, harlequin rasboras, or gouramis.

Thanks

not sure about the compatibility, but I saw a German Ram the other day and it was striking.

Wouldn't the angel eat the cards? They eat neons, or so I've heard/read...How about a couple more really pretty male guppies? or platties? Then again I was getting kind of tired of what my 29 looked like so I just totally remodeled it so to speak...love it now...rip out all decorations and plants, and move them all around, add some new ones? Get another angel? How about Kooli Loaches? Haven't seen them in awhile, but was always fond of them...Heidi

When I get a little bored with a tank I do one of two things. First, I will redecorate the tank. Move some plants or ornaments around, or even replace them with something new. The second thing I do(when possible) is restock my tanks with the fish I currently have. Just resently I moved my Platies out of a tank with Danios and into a tank with Cories. Now, the Danios seem to enjoy having the whole tank to themselves. And with addition of the Platies, the Cories are now more active.

Theresa,

A nice school of something. Rummies or Pencilfish would work well with the Angel.

Then a couple of SA Dwarf Cichilds, something other then the usual rams, maybe a couple of Apistos would also compliment the Angel.

I'd go with an Apisto harem, personally.

Theresa,
another option is some of the smaller rainbows - Threadfin, Neon Dwarf and another I've seen a lot of recently is Furcata (2" very pretty blue and yellow with long finnage).

Theresa, for your tank i think a few Hatchetfish would be a good addition to your setup.
pencilfish should also be considered. They're a bit different and not as common as many other fish.
Corys would also be a good choice.

I also recommend that you add some type of tetra to your tank.

I'm not a fan of cichlids at all, so I would have avoided the lot of them

(BTW, there are also longfinned rams, wild caught rams, golden ram, golden longfinned rams etc, all of which would fall under the 'not the usual ram' category.)

Teresa, I also think it would be a good idea to rearrange your tank.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

As for dwarf cichlids, another idea could be some Curviceps. I personally have never owned them, but the ones we have at the store seem very peaceful.

Also, we just got in some pencilfish called "red arch pencilfish", and they are the most beautiful tetras I've ever seen. You have to see them to to believe them. I could ship some to you, if you're willing to pay about $7 per fish (plus shipping).

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions

While I'm a big cichlid fan, I like both the rummynose and rainbowfish suggestions, although I've always wanted to try hatchetfish as well

I won't be doing anything for a few weeks. We're going to be moving, which will be a good time to rearrange the tank, take a good look at it, and decide what I want to get.

And those red arch pencilfish are gorgeous They'd look fantastic in my 'red tank' with belted cherry barbs. I assume they're schoolers?

Di, those pencil fish are beautiful!!! How hard are they to get in other places do you reckon? Leslie is thinking of a larger tank, Yippee, and maybe she would fancy them...
