Is there a difference between bogwood and driftwood? What is it? If there is a difference, is it okay for plecos to rasp on both? Sorry if this is a silly question and thanks in advanced for all your help!

Bogwood tends to be heavier, darker in colouration and be consisted of roots and be bunchier more often than driftwood, which tends to be lighter, ligher in colouration and be more blocky. You should look to find several pieces of smaller bogwood to make a nice piece, as larger pieces that are quite right will rarely be found.

I had always thought that they were the same thing.

My plecs have always seemed to prefer bogwood, I think because it's a little softer, but they'll happily chew on either. Roughage is roughage!

Mine likes bogwood, and the "softer" areas of driftwood.

If your wondering which one you should get, why not add some pieces of both drift and bog, and let the pleco decide himself

Well I might have what I "think" is a piece of bogwood (it seems to be darker than the driftwood in the tank now) that I will put in the tank. I will wait and see what my little guy likes better..He usually is chewing on a piece of driftwood in his favorite spot at night, but I just want to make sure he had the best possible option! Thanks for the info!
