I want to breed my platys, but i'm not sure if they are old enough. How old are they when they begin to reproduce? I've had mine for a week (so far 2 females, I'm getting a male soon), but are they mature when they are sold at the pet store? (I bought mine at Petco)

Platies are generally mature at the pet store. If the males have their pointed anal fin, they are mature. The females are hard to tell, because their are no physical body changes. They can mature befor the males are mature.

The females will give birth every four weeks. I had a female do this for ten batches of platies.

also, i'f you're impatient (like me ) and want to get the fry a little sooner, sometimes feeding the pregnant female something like bloodworms will get her to give birth a few days early, also, a small water change would also work.

this won't always work but it worked for me
