i have a empty 10g and a 20g with a pair of female bettas. i want to put the bettas in the 10g. but its not even setup. im going to put in gravel soon. im going to put a whisper 20 on the 10g and i have a filter pad in my 75g that was off my whisper 20. if i setup the 10g could i use the bettas to sort of cycle it even though i would use old filter media in the new filter. im getting a filter with flow control knob

I think I would wait a week or two before adding the bettas.

I know that I waited 2 weeks before I put my female betta in our 10 gallon. Then I added a few cories that I had in another 10 a week later, and all seems well so far.

They should be more than fine if you give it a week to start to cycle. I wouldn't worry too much about it...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

I cycled my twenty gallon with my female bettas... *shrugs* They never showed signs of stress during the time and that was starting from scratch, with nothing to jumpstart the cycle. I'd just set up the tank and let it settle for a day or so before adding the filter pad and fish. Of course, that's just me. :%)

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

Waiting will do nothing more than starve the bacteria.

Add everything at once, if your 75 is established you should be fine
