Why don't you just return the fish you have left, instead of "waiting for them to die".

If the tank is small enough, say 33g or less, you can just put in the tub, add hot water, some aquarium salt, and scrub. If the tank is too big, do the same thing, add hot water and aquarium salt, scrub good, then drain using your siphon hose from your gravel washer.
Rinse well, and set up. You do realize once you move it and change the gravel, your tank will cycle again right?
Most of the beneficial bacteria (nitrobacter) lives in the gravel. Make sure you cycle your tank properly before adding new fish. In my opinion, perhaps you would want to move it, clean it, set it up, and cycle it using the danios you have right now, seeings you are waiting for them to die anyway. Just pop em with some of the tank water in a bucket while you are doing all your stuff, and pop em into the tank when its set up. An air stone in the bucket will help em, but isnt necessary assuming they will be back in the tank within a couple of hours.

Usually stores only take in fish if they appear to be in good health.

Maybe this is a stupid thought but since you are going to have to cycle the tank again, why don't you use the danios to assist in the process ?? Also, Otos are excellent and cleaning brown algae.

Oh bestill my heart.. Don't let the poor Danio's suffer!!

If I could come there and gather your Danios, I would. They would love to live with my crew!

I would keep the little dudes to cycle your new tank as others have mentioned. Danios are perfect for the purpose. Just my $0.02 I suppose.

Unless you intend to take ages to move/clean the tank, they should be fine. Get a bucket you can hook your filter on and treat it as a temp tank. It shouldn't take too long to clean and move and danios are hardy little things. Make sure you keep the filter running so that you don't loose all your bacteria.
