Hey all.
I was weeding my tank tonight when I found the roots of one plant crawling with bloodworms. The thing is, I've only ever used frozen worms??? Has anyone ever heard of this happening???? Can bloodworms survive freezing? Do Nasa know?

Not such an issue as it explains what my ghost has been digging for.

Any similar stories?

Thanks!

i shouldnt think they could survive freezing... i dont think the eggs can either.

perhaps you had a bug lay them? or they came in on a plant?

The worms are red...blood red. Have considered that they may be something else but what?

Am also considering bottling the water and selling it as a miracle cure for frostbite.

Aren't bloodworms mosquito larvae? If so, then couldn't a mosquito have laid eggs in your tank? I really don't think they can survive being frozen.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Blood worms are mosquito larvae and so I wouldn't expect them to be around the substrate (they have to stay at the surface). Whatever it is, it's not blood worms. Possibly something that came in as an egg on a plant or fish?

Yeah, they won't survive freezing, but you could freeze them in ice cube trays if you wanted to keep them & use them as food.

on a side note, a bloodworm is a Midge Fly Larvae, NOT a mosquito Larvae

Mozzie's on the left, Bloodworm's on the right.
