mariosim![]() Enthusiast Posts: 207 Kudos: 245 Votes: 20 Registered: 28-Jul-2004 ![]() | my closest petsmart currently has pinky sized juvies on sale for 2 bucks each. would 6 of these be okay in a 125gal community tank? i have no experiance with these guys- my internet searching has turned up contradicting info (surprise). some say they only eat snails and various worms, others say flake food is accepted. some say they are a species only fish due to their fin fetish, others say otherwise. the tank in question is drastically understocked with peaceful schools of very peaceful community fish of various sizes. mal trumpet snails have a definate foothold in the tank (some sites say mts are too thick to be an adequate source of food) any real world advice would be appreciated. |

Anything else and you're other fish will suffer injuries or die. That's a guarantee. They're good for 5, 10, 15, 20gallon tanks. Also, IMO they aren't that great looking. They're just like little tadpoles lol. And they require snails once a week along with other harder to get foods. Kind of annoying. Last edited by fishnewbie at 17-Oct-2004 09:43 |

But they definately can't go in a community tank. If you still want them I would suggest getting a 5 or 10g tank and you can add one puffer per gallon or two. If you were to get a 5 or 10g tank then I would advise not getting anything else but the puffers. I feed mine snails and frozen bloodworms. -Nemo ![]() |

Are they the size of your whole pinky finger, or just your nail? Those for sale may be adults already. Make sure they sure DPs, not GSPs (green spotted puffers), or you're going to have problems. mariosim![]() Enthusiast Posts: 207 Kudos: 245 Votes: 20 Registered: 28-Jul-2004 ![]() | they are definately baby dwarf puffers- the size of my pinkie nail. do you guys have actual experiance with the adults being vicious, or are you guys merely repeating folk lore. |

I haven't had any luck with it myself, but in a 125 gal, the world is yours. |
mariosim![]() Enthusiast Posts: 207 Kudos: 245 Votes: 20 Registered: 28-Jul-2004 ![]() | i took a chance on them this morning and got 4. i figure their mouths are currently too small to damage anything bigger then a baby snail. if they do grow too large and aggresive, i have a few smaller tanks laying around that they can claim. |

mariosim![]() Enthusiast Posts: 207 Kudos: 245 Votes: 20 Registered: 28-Jul-2004 ![]() | right now, they are cruising the bottom of the tank chomping baby snails. with their small size and color, they really blend in with the gravel. if they do pose a threat, i have a spare tank they can have. although, the thought of netting something so small from such a large tank gives me nightmares. |
