Hello all. My question regards the cycling fish. Does it matter how big it is? Heres the case. The zebra danioes around here are only maybee 3/4 in long. Would they survive the cycle? If i bought 8 to cycle a 29 gallon with eco complete established gravel would the cycle go considerably fast or very slow or maybe just normal?

if you cycle with gravel from an already cycled tank, yes it will go much fast - possibly even 2 times faster.

Also, I would use about 5 dainos to cycle that tank.

I agree with Vic, the cycle will go by faster.

However, I think you could just put the whole school of 8 in the tank. Danios don't produce much waste, and yours will be half the size of adults. Besides, you will already be closely monitoring the levels of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, you can make a water change if the levels get too crazy.

Nah, they would eventually need to be moved. Swordtails reach four inches or so, and are very active. They will need more room than 20 gallons, so you should try danios or tetras. I cycled my 29 gallon with a school of six lemon tetras.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Devon, the swords will do fine in a 20 gal tank. I have had a whole colony of dozens breeding in 20 gal tanks for years.
