You mean pristella Tetras. Yes your tank is way stocked. Your CAE is enough to fully stock that tank. CAE's get 6-10 inches. You should get rid of that fish. They also eat fish when they get bigger. Problems: The emerald cories (Brochis splendens) will reach nearly three inches, and should be kept in shoals of 6+ fish. You don't have room for that. The gold barb needs friends (preferably at least four-five more), and will eventually reach around four inches. There isn't enough room for that. The Chinese algae eater gets very large, almost a foot in length. On top of that, they can become aggressive. You probably don't want that. ![]() So yeah, you're over your limit. Again, I really think you should redo your tank's stocking, for the sake of your fish. |

Or is it a different species? Only I thought those fish (which are actually a xanthic morph of Barbus semifasciolatus) only reached 2 inches. Last edited by Calilasseia at 19-Jun-2005 21:17 |

And keep in mind your corries really need more than 2-3 friends to be happy, they prefer to have 6+ friends even if they aren't of the same species they just really need quite a few of themselves to play with, just like little kids...Make the decisions, we know it's tough, if you can't decide just go get yourself a bigger tank it's always a good excuse to get one![]() heidi "Is it possible, That we are each others soul mates and when there is a man they are just there for added enjoyment?"--SITC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." If your buying a new tank, look for a 20 gallon LONG. They are probably the same price as a 20 gallon High, but they give you alot more room, as much as a 29 gallon! You really don't have to move too much if you don't want to. The pristellas would look nice in the 10. The cherry barbs could also stay in the 10. MAYBE, the gold barbs (if they are the 2" kind) could also stay in the 10, if you get 5 more and have good filtration. As a rule of thumb, I like to keep 2 schools of 6 small fish in a tank as small as a 10 gallon. In this case, the cherry barbs are so small, they could also stay. Now, you are left with the emerald cories and they CAE. CAEs are still too big for a 20 Long, so I suggest you return it to the store for credit, or give it to a friend. With the CAE out of the picture, the only fish you have in the 20 are 2 lil cories! This gives you a ton of room to add many different kinds of fish (including 4 more cores). |
poisonwaffle![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 ![]() | I agree with djtj...keep the old tank with the barbs and tetras, move the cories to the 20g (preferably long), and finish out the schools of 'em...then add some other fish...ditch the CAE... Cories tend to be happiest in schools of atleast 6-8 PER SPECIES...you can get like 5 of one species if ya get like 10 of another...but it's best to have either one large school of one species, or 2 large schools of 2 species...don't get a couple of each species, they won't be happy... Have fun ![]() |
