well normally i add the water ... water conditioner .... i then leave it for 1 weeks ... then i add something like danio's to help make amonia for the filter .... then i leave them in there feeding them flake food then i check my water parameters every 4 days ... untill i cna see that my nitrite and amonia levels are 0 ..... then i adjust to whatever PH the fish need .... my tap water PH is 8.5 out of the tap

Cycling with fish is cruel & painful to the fish. Toxic ammonia burns fish's gills, eyes, fins, skin, etc. (ammonia burns). Ammonia eating bacteria also has to relieve themselves, and its waste is what we call nitrItes. Nitrites are toxic to fish as well (it decreases oxygen levels in the fish's blood, causing the fish to suffocate).

Fishless cycling is quicker & you can fully stock your tank when done. See:

I don't know about you, but for fishless cycling, products such as stress zyme and other bacteria additives work well.

Don't waster your $$$ on any of those. They are nothing but dead bacteria/food & can actually harm your cycling process. The only product that contains live bacteria to "instant cycle" your tank is Bio-Spira. Marineland is out of stock & won't have any more until the fall.

BIO-SPIRA IS THE ONLY PRODUCT CONTAINING LIVE BACTERIA CULTURES TO INSTANTLY CYCLE YOUR TANK. ANYTHING ELSe IS A TOTAL WASTE OF $$$ & CAN ACTUALLY CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THE CYCLING OF A TANK!!!

On a related note, I'm moving one of my fig8s to a ten gal for qt. The dude's only about 2" in length, but what worries me is that I keep a large bamboo shrimp in there. Would he be okay, at least for the time being? He's about 3.5".

You could have even 2 F8s in a 20g, but are you ready for BW?
