Toxic ammonia burns fish's gills, eyes, fins, skin, etc. (ammonia burns). Ammonia eating bacteria also has to relieve themselves, and its waste is what we call nitrItes. Nitrites are toxic to fish as well (it decreases oxygen levels in the fish's blood, causing the fish to suffocate). Fishless cycling is quicker & you can fully stock your tank when done. See: http://www.tropicalfishcentre.co.uk/Fishlesscycle.htm |

pufferpunk![]() Big Fish Posts: 462 Kudos: 395 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Feb-2003 ![]() | Don't waster your $$$ on any of those. They are nothing but dead bacteria/food & can actually harm your cycling process. The only product that contains live bacteria to "instant cycle" your tank is Bio-Spira. Marineland is out of stock & won't have any more until the fall. |

pufferpunk![]() Big Fish Posts: 462 Kudos: 395 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Feb-2003 ![]() | BIO-SPIRA IS THE ONLY PRODUCT CONTAINING LIVE BACTERIA CULTURES TO INSTANTLY CYCLE YOUR TANK. ANYTHING ELSe IS A TOTAL WASTE OF $$$ & CAN ACTUALLY CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THE CYCLING OF A TANK!!! |
pufferpunk![]() Big Fish Posts: 462 Kudos: 395 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Feb-2003 ![]() | How exactly do yu cycle your tank? |

The dude's only about 2" in length, but what worries me is that I keep a large bamboo shrimp in there. Would he be okay, at least for the time being? He's about 3.5". |
