I have had in the last month 3 f guppies who were pregnant but died - two were eaten by my crab & the other was trying to give birth but grew a big lump. I have 2 remaining f guppies who both look a little pregnant.

Today I saw a baby fish in my tank! it must be about 3mm long & I'm guessing it's a guppy although I also have neons. I saw it when I went to feed the fish as it came to the surface when I dropped in some sinking pellets so I crumbled up some flake which it ate. I now cant see it.

How can I try to keep it safe from the crab, filter etc? If I can't see it I can't catch it.

Baby fish are very good at hiding in the smallest spots imaginable. if you cannot catch the fish to move it to a safe location, i suggest dropping in many thickets of fine-leaved plants, be them real or of the plastic persuasion. That way the lil guy can hide out until he's big enough to go around on his own.

They sure are good at hiding. I had some fry that did the same thing...one day I noticed they were hiding in the gravel even. If you already have plants...it could be anywhere. Good luck with your guppies, and sorry to hear of your loss.

To keep it from getting sucked up in the filter get a big sponge, cut a slit in the end, put it over your intake tube and rubber band it in place. Make sure it's a new clean sponge without soap or detergent.

Good luck, Mike
