Hi,
ive had african butterfly fish before, i recently recieved some new ones as a present. i was wondering how high they can actually jump???

The fact that they jump simply means that a closed lid is essential.

i know that they can jump, that is not the question.
but i was wondering how high they jump
i mean if i can lower the water enough, deeper than they can jump then they cant hit themselves

I doubt that anyone has taken a measuring stick and calculated it. I think the best advice is, no mattter how much you lower it, put a lid on top as well. Its really not that expensive. The only reason I can think of that you wouldn't keep lid would be if you were growning emmersed plants, in which case those plants are taking up valuable swimming space for the african anyway.

i have a lid, and i do use it.
however i am wondering if ican lower my water level enough so that when they do jump they dun hit the glass at the top?
