Hello, Me again,

So having read some books & spent hours on the website, yesterday I finally got my first first fish for my first tank...

I went to my LFS which has only been open about 6 months & found the staff quite helpful. I went in for 2 neon blue dwarf gouramis (sp?) but the males weren't in stock...& I couln't wait until wednesday so I went home with two very pretty yellow & black guppies whom I named Mr & Mrs.

Put them in take with lights out for two hours, put light on, spent 2 hours watching them swim around & then gave them 1 flake of food each, which they seamed to enjoy. They didn't hide at all & were quite active all evening. But when I put the light out to go to bed I was terified they wouldn't be here in the morning...

But lo, a miricle has happend :-) 16 hours after they first arrived they are still happily swimming arround exploring their new home (but haven't ventured inside the suncken galleon yet). How pleased am I.

Lets see if they're still in one piece when I get home from work tonight....(I nearly pulled a sicky to stay home & watch).

I'm sure as long as you keep your water parameters up to par, your fish should be fine.

Good luck!

sad fish...

I have Mr & Mrs Guppy it's there third day...last night we had a power cut while I was asleep...The power is back but Mrs guppy is very slow & lethargic, hiding but not moving much.

My b/f says maybe she's been shagged so much she knackered, but it think it was the stress of moving house & then getting a power cut & then the heater going back on.

How can I cheer her up?

Hmmmm...to be honest another female would really help. Guppy males can be very amorous and that stresses the females. 1M/2F is good, 1M/3F is even better.

She still may be adjusting to her new home, she could also very likly be pregnant.

Good luck.

Well you said you have read books and been online, you are WAY ahead of many beginners and I would like to be the first to THANK YOU for leaning what you are doing before jumping in head first into fish.

Here are some questions for you:

Are you watch water parameters? Ammonia, Nitrite, pH, and the rest? If not, I suggest some test kits and start watching and recording. One way to find what your fish like the best is to record water parameters (such as pH, gh, and those kinds of things) and see when you fish are at their best and worst. Then try to keep the water at where they are best.

If you are watching the water parameters, did what are they? If ammonia and nitrite are both at 0, is that because the tank is cycled or because it hasn't been fully introduced?

I hope that your fish survive and you stay in the best hobby every for a long, long time!

Racso

i hope u are having more luck with ur fish then i am i just lost my breeding betta and guppy, the female that died was full of eggs!! i dont know what went wrong, first she was swimming then got cotton wool on her face and dorcel fin, then she got red streaks on her tail. first i got rid of the cotton wool on the dorcel, then before she died (obviousely) i noticed the red streaks were gone!!
