Are you referring to the Jelly Bean Tetra?

Also, some LFS refer to dyed fishes as "Jelly Bean ____"

No, I wouldn't put one in there with a betta. Ten gallons is too small for a four inch fish, even without any tankmates. At least fifteen or twenty gallons is best for the jellybean cichlid. Once the tank becomes too small for the cichlid, it will take out its frustrations on the betta. That will result in a dead betta.

This is a jelly bean tetra http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/jellybean.xml

Any other "jelly bean" fish are likely to be dyed, which is a very cruel process and I hope you will not support it by buying these fish. You can read more about dyeing of fishes here: http://www.deathbydyeing.org/home.htm

Also, besides the fact that they are dyed (which is a horrible, horrible practice - please don't support it) and incredibly deformed, these "jelly bean" cichlids are hybrids, which most aquarists look down upon.

Also, they do not get 3-4" long. They are hybrids of two large cichlids (red devil and something else), and these hideous fish grow to about 8" long and need at least a 50 gallon tank. They also tend to be aggressive, so putting them with a betta is a bad idea.

I can't see why people actually like these fish - they are ugly and deformed. None of them can close their mouths properly and there's a special "breed" that does not even have a tail (or even a caudal peduncle) and is a terrible swimmer.

At my store when people bring them in (because we don't stock such fish), and especially the dyed and tail-less ones, we usually just end their miserable lives by feeding them to our 3' redtail cats. Nobody ever buys them anyway and we'd rather not have all them take up our stock tanks...

blood parrots are a cross of (or at least believed to be) midas/red devil and severum. a jellybean parrot on the other hand is a cross of a blood parrot and pink convict. blood parrots are quite often dyed and grow to 8-9"ish whereas jellybeans are often sold not dyed (normal color is a pinkish like pink cons) and probably grow in the 6" area.

my LFS has a 9" parrot.

It is so deformed, and has no tail.

I almost throw up, it is disgusting.
