ok i feed my fish with aquarian tropical flake food... and the fish in my 20 gal will eat the food up but leave the yellow flakes at the top... i watched and watched... i even examined this for several days but they still do the same things.. the food eventually sinks to the bottom where my upsidedown catfish and snails eat it..

Perhaps they just don't like them? As long as the snails and such are eating them, and they aren't dirtying your aquarium, I don't see why it should bother anything.

Flake foods tend to have all the same ingredients in each flake, no matter the color. So I don't think they could not like the yellow ones, because they'd taste the same. Maybe the yellow ones don't look like food to them, or are harder to see on the surface(not as eye catching as the brighter red and green ones)?

I faced a similar problem while feeding TetraColor flake food to my clown loaches. They simply would not eat the flakes that floated at the top of the tank.

I spoke to a friend abt this and he suggested that I "dunk" the flake food in a small quantity of water so that they sink before I put them into the tank. That way the moment I put in the flakes food, it sinks to the bottom of the tank and the clowns and plecos are more happy eating them.

This also helps keep the top surface of the tank clean

I feed my community tank Aquarian flakes. Nobody ever favors the different colors. Then again, my gold barbs will eat anything within site. Little pigs...

Anyway, I guess I might pay closer attention. My guess is is that color may be harder for them to see, or something along those lines.
