i dont think i am having a good sucess rate with my krib fry. I know the parents lay between 100-150 eggs but i only get about 30-40 that end up free swimming and after about a week or two i only have about 20 left. Why is this happening.

i feed them 2-3 times a day with liquid fry food for egg layers and frozen baby brine shrimp. i tried some live brine but that was just too much of a hassel.

please help me get a better survior rate.

My first batch of Krib fry was only 35 or so. Is this their first spawn?

The second bunch looks to be over 100. I fed them live BBS and flakes crushed into powder. I'd skip the liquid and go with FRY BITES or FIRST BITES and the frozen BBS if you don't want to hassle with hatching BBS.

Good luck, Mike

this is my fourth batch, first batch was real small, second batch was about twenty, third batch they ate most of them and now i am on the fourth batch. a few days ago i had between 30 and 40, too many to count, this mornign i have about 20. is the food not good enough or are the parents picking off some of their fry.

If the parents ate a whole batch they might be picking these guys off one by one. Try keeping the parents well fed.

I've heard that sometimes parent fish will pick off the weaker fry but never experienced that myself.

As for the food, the only time I've used liquid fry food was on a batch of Tiger Barbs and that's because they were almost microscopic. Krib fry are big enough that you don't need to go with liquid. Mine really went for the newly hatched BBS but they ate frozen too when I didn't time a hatch right. After a week I started adding flakes and dried bloodworms crushed to a powder.

Good luck, Mike

You hadn't told us what was in the same tank as your krib family. It may be any of then that are picking the fry one by one.
