I keep a plastic container with water & rocks on a window ledge to grow algae for my otos. Today I noticed there are hundreds of tiny little medium-brown dots, alive & swimming (?), probably the size of a pin point.

Any idea what they are? Should I dump the water and start over?

SOunds like a larvae of some kind. Other fish may eat them. Wait a few days and see if they continue to grow.

I'd guess larva of some kind as well. I'm sure your bettas would love the treat... one of my coworkers has a betta that gets the random squished fruit fly (there's tons of them here) and he attacks them ravenously.

That's what I figured. I thought about feeding them to my fish but wanted to make sure it was safe. This should be interesting

Could they be daphnia? Fish love them! Daphnia are tiny (less than 1 mm) crustaceans which will thrive in green water. Do a search on Google, and you'll find a ton of info.
