I don't know much about buying BNs, but I don't think it would be worth it to buy julii cories from Liveaquaria. While I'm sure they would arrive to you in fine condition, you can probably find some at a much better price. I see them all the time in Maryland.

Where in the US do you live?

Actually, AquariumFish.net have really screwed me around when I tried using them.

I mean, how the heck can you put a bright red tailed fish in a bag labelled "blue"? And twice in a row!!?! For example, they advertised this fish:

But this is what arrived.. twice!

(sorry about the lousy photos, the left picture was before opening the bag)

Yes, I'm still angry with them.]:|

fish2u has a great selection of rainbowfish. I don't like the idea that they won't lock in a shipping price before ordering. I like to know what I'm getting into financially before I order. That is a big reason I like aquariumfish.net, $25 shipping no matter what size order you make.

I understand about not wanting to buy from local chain stores. Unfortunately I have that problem in my area.

I've ordered from liveaquaria.com a few times. I don't like that they have a minimum order, but if you're purchasing a number of fish that's not usually a problem. I was happy with their shipping and with the fish. They state that they try to fill special requests...I did this twice and when contacted they seemed to act as though no one was aware I had made a special request ]:|

Another site I've looked at but not ordered from is [link=fish2u.com]http://www.fish2u.com/fish2u/index.html" style="COLOR: #FFFFC0[/link].

I often read the Cichlid Forum Reviews that john.stone
posted, even for lfs.

Good luck

I would prefer to stick with Aquariumfish.net as well but they don't have what I'm looking for.

I probably wouldn't get Cories on-line if that was the only thing I was ordering. But, I don't think I'd buy a fish from the Petsco, Petsmart or Wal-marts around here. I've had the tank wiped out by introduced disease before and don't think quarantining new arrivals is nearly as effective as getting healthy fish from trustworthy dealers. I don't mind spending more to get a better probability of healthy fish. Unfortunately, I don't have any trustworthy LFS in my area.

I like and use Aquariumfish.net.. The selection is a bit lacking, but the fish quality and prices are wonderful.

How about Aquariumstuffers.com? They have the plecs and cories at about half the price of liveaquaria. Shipping is more expensive but I'd still come out ahead on the order.

Anyone have any comments regarding Aquariumstuffers quality?
I hear they're not so good, but not as many people order from them. The fish are excruciatingly small for those prices, though.

In my area, Petco lists them as julii and are right, but PetsMart lists them as julii and are wrong.

They'd most likely be C. trilineatus anyway, which is one of the most common species in the hobby. The Petcos around here carry them for like $2.

As some of you know, I really like ordering fish on-line as opposed to trusting the LFS in my area. I usually go through Aquariumfish.net but they don't have what I'm looking for right now.

liveaquaria.com has the species I want at a similar price but I've never used them before. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with them? If you have ordered through liveaquaria.com, would you order from them again and recommend them to others?

I was just looking for 2 or 3 Bristlenose plecs and 7 or 8 Julii cories to fill out my rainbowfish tank. Its a 125G tank centered around rainbowfish that has developed some algae on the glass. Not a big problem at all but a couple of glass cleaning algae eaters will be a nice fit. The Julii will join three already in the tank to make a nice group. I'm not looking for anything exotic but the LFS in my area are weak with little selection and high probability of getting sick fish. I like aquariumfish.net but they are out of bristlenose plecs and don't carry the Julii cories.

As stated, they have horrendous prices, but their quality is supposedly fairly good.

I've never found any reason to order from them. They may have good common freshwater fish, but their rarer freshwater fish have ridiculous prices. Ordering them for marine fish may be a possibility, though.

i've ordered from them twice, and yes I would reccommend them. prices of the fish are usually reasonable (depending on species - some are downright absurd), but for relatively common fish it's no problem. shipping kills, though. it's a minimum $35 order, plus $25 for shipping plus another charge for saturday delivery (if you need it).

but for me, LFS isnt too great of an option so i go with liveaquaria.com

both times ive been very satisfied. this is how they package, in order from the fish outward to the box:

1.) fish are in blue water, which i believe is oxygen-enriched, plus the bag is injected with 02

2.) three layers of bags, the first mentioned above, then two more on top of that.

3.) bags are placed inside a package which is filled with air, sealed and covered in these smaller air pockets - kind of hard to explain but it's pretty sturdy and cool

4.) that package fits directly into the box, so there's no room for it to move around inside

all in all, great packaging

and the fish were just fine. i always make sure to let the fish acclimate slowly (the dump and pour method) and they've all been fine - and dont let any of that weird blue water in your tank, i just dont trust it

ive gotten all the fish currently in my tank from them - a large school of rasboras, yo-yo loaches, and a BN, all are doing very well right now. once again, highly reccommended if money isnt too much of an issue

I've placed many orders from LiveAquaria and all have been satisfactory...

One day shipping is particularly valuable and all trops arrive healthy.

I used them once in the winter and was satisfied with how much effort they put into the packaging. My fishes (hatchetfishes and cories)turned out fine, but they are paticularly hardy.
What were you thinking about buying?
