heres a quick one i need an answer to from everybody.

i have a 29g tank that has been established for about a month, in it i had 1 male betta and 2

Arius leptaspis (Salmontail Catfish http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/salmontail.xml)

and they were going between shrip pellets and flake food. all 3 lived fine together, but my room mate said that one of the catfish's were found dead this morning. i dont have the tanks readings, but all of the levels for a tank were acceptable.

now for my question, are these catfish emotional? meaning if there were the two together for a period of time one died, would the other become slow and basicly just almost sit around from being lonely?

any help as soon as possible, so i need to know that i should stop by the pet store and get more catfish on the way home.

thanks all.

They get 31 inches! You have them in a 29g tank! How do you expect them to fit in there once larger?!?!

You need to stop by the LFS for sure, either to buy a much larger tank immediatley and start cycling it right now or to take them back for someone else to look after.

Yeah fella, I'd get rid of that catfish soon. They grow much too large for your tank, and won't fit (literally). You would be better off with, say, a shoal or two of cories or some other small fish.

They do grow very fast and they need something about 120inches x 50inches (just a guide) so you work out the gallons for that

frankly I don`t care about your question. The answer is they are schooling so would do best in large groups, about 6 to keep them nicely happy. But there no point in keeping them as they will stunt and die before you get them into a big enough tank. Buy them a 120g at least now or a pong and they will be ok for a while

you basicly answered it just there. they are schooling fish and would need more in there. then to make the world happy. i'll try to return the surviving one until i buy the larger tank.

thanks for the data peoples
