Just remember that small fish will get bigger & so it's better to calculate the fully grown size & not the actual size. ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

As the others have said, a 10-gallon is too small of a tank for an angelfish. While he may be small now, he'll grow up to be approximately 5" long and his fins can extend almost 10" from top to bottom. Angelfish as such require approximately a 30 gallon tank minimum for them to live healthily... As for the guppies, your Angelfish will pick on them a little initially, and may actually nip their fins a tad. As the Angelfish grows, it will leave the guppies alone more and more, but it WILL eat guppy fry (baby guppies), which is a good thing because your guppies will produce fry constantly. Other than eating fry, the only fish that really would need to fear your Angelfish are Neon Tetras and other small tetra species such as Cardinals... If getting a tank of at least 30 gallons isn't a possibility at the moment, that's understandable, but I'm sorry, the best thing for the fish would be to return the Angelfish for the time being. Once you can get a large enough tank, you can get one again and watch it grow into a big, beautiful fish... ![]() Now you know why most of us have multiple large tanks... ![]() PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread. |

Just like people fish are individuals, and while one may grow to 5 inches in a 100g tank, another may grow to 8 inches in the same tank, and yet another might even hit 10. Fish sizes are approximations not precise rules to live by, and besides different peoples fish live in different conditions which ultimately may change the max size to which a fish may grow. I dont think it is appropriate to hijack someone else's thread with your argument. Sarah, what everyone has said is true, and angelfish will require a larger tank. Not just because of how large this fish grows, but because of how FAST this fish will grow to full size. The Average angelfish reaches full size within a year, maybe less, maybe a little more. For example, I purchased My angelfish when he was about the size of the top of a soda can around. IN 3 months time, he has doubled his size, and I expect once he is in my 90g tank, he will start growing even faster. When you get a new fish it may harrass the other fish, and espescially if there is a lack of space. I would suggest what everyone else has said, either get a bigger tank, 30+ to keep your Angel, or take him back to the pet store where you got him and exchange him for a smaller fish. You talked about parameters and quality of water shaping a fish's ability to grow. All estimates have been taken for granted that the aquarist keeps the water in pristine condition. If you do not do that, you should not have the animals. We were not fighting over anything. And a disagreement amongst members is not hijacking a thread. We here at FP do our best to keep newbies as well informed as possible. We do so by an overwhelming show of the RIGHT information. If someone is wrong in the opinion of any member, that member should speak up and either prove the person wrong, or learn that they are wrong. |

When I first started and people were mean or rude to me on this site, it made me want to disagree with them. Nothing will ever be accomplished with a nasty tone. Theres a saying "You catch more flies with honey that you do with vinegar" and I agree. I think too often people are quick to judge and start being aggressive to the newbie. In some cases, I wouldnt blame the newbie if they never came back, or didnt even respond again to the answers he/she has requested. I just think that everyone should think a little longer before they start snapping out orders. Be nice to the new guys, its not their fault some LFS person said its ok to keep an angel fish in a 10g tank, we all started out somewhere, and often in "popular" opinion, it was the "wrong" place. Just my opinion. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
