They're probably just bloated due to sickness/overfeeding. If they DO spawn, however, consider yourself very lucky as neon tetra breeding is rare.

I tought it was impossable to breed neons in the aquaraim but here is what i know about them .
they need soft water,1-2 hardness,PH 5.0-6.0 and a temprature of 24c/75 farenhightand have java moss is normaly at the bottom of the tank They usualy spwan on the java. .they need dim lighting. Ohhh and remove the parents(if they are preg). The fry are free swiming afer about five days . If there are fry then feed them on newly hatched brine shrimp . Ohh i alomst forgot the eggs will hatch in about 24 hours good luck . Let us know how they get on .

sorry , i totally forgot about this!
i took all the neon tetras out and put all 9 of them in a 10 gal. they had tiny babies, and they ate them!!! then all died but 2! ( all of the adults...) and the last two i gave to my friend, cuz she has a Lg school of neon tetras. i gave up on tetras, that was just way too strange for me...
i guess u r right about "neons breeding is rare" cuz every LFS i called and asked they either told me they had no clue or they sent me somewhere else, where i got the same answer ( "i dunno"... anyway

sorry i didn't reply sooner, since that happened i really didn't try breeding any more fish... who wants to breed them if they r just gonna eat their kids??? what's up with that.. i would have pulled the parents/grown-ups out but i didn't see the eggs/or the babies hatch, i just saw 3 lil ones get eaten right before my eyes, 3-4 days later, after i placed the neons in the 10 gal.. freaky friday, or whatever day it was.

first off I do believe all tetras are egg layers.
secondly, most fish, besides some cichlids, do eat their young. Thats why you remove the parents...
