Hmmmm...betta and some sort of very small schooling fish, such as least rasbora, emerald dwarf rasbora, neon tetra, ember tetra.

What else? Endler's, dwarf gourami, pair of rams, killies...anything in particular you definitely want or want to avoid?

I second the multis, killies, or endlers.
If you're looking for bettas why not go with female bettas? Or if it just a male betta you're interested in, you might be able to have some of the smaller pigmy corys with him, depending on his personality that is.

I have a male betta in a 15 with 5 bronze corys, so smaller corys in a 10 should bbe fine with a betta (it does depend on the betta though). I've heard coolie loaches can be good, and mixed experiences with platys

This is just me, but in a 10g I'd put:

6 small corys (like black fins)
2 or 3 sparkling gouramis

OR

a breeding pair of kribs (VERY easy to do)

OR

a breeding pair of rams (not as easy)

OR

heavily planted with a school of tetras (like cards or glowlites) for flashes of color

OR

a betta
6 corys
an African dwarf frog or 2

I think Kribs or Rams also or Apistos. However there is a 10 in my garage that's been calling to me and I think I might try Shellies.

Have fun, Mike

Dwarf puffers or
a bunch of shrimp or
a single crayfish or
shell dwellers or
killies or
a school of julie cories or
a couple bumblebee gobies or

If you go with a pair of kribs, you won't ever be disappointed. Everything I listed above can be a bit more demanding except for the cories.

I'm making a River Tank out of my 10g, but without the PVC stuff...I'm just arranging a good round current with 2 filters and a powerhead. I've got danios and a hillstream loach in the tank itself...and I've got a betta in a glass chimney in there...so it's an asian tank
