I'd suggest returning the CAE to your LFS, they get quite large (IME too large for a 20) and have been known to suck on the slime coat of other fish.

Neons and black neons are both schooling fish, I'd suggest going for 6 of each as a minimum. You can increase the schools 3 or so @a time and wait a week+ between additions.
HTH a bit .

I'd also suggest upping the number of neons and black neons. If you definitly want/need an algae eater in that tank, I'd suggest ottos. I'd say 8 neons, 8 black neons, and 3 ottos. And as Babelfish mentioned, add the new fish in small groups over the next couple months.

the CAEs suck the slime only from those they can catch. as long as the other fish are not slow, it's safe.

Even if they aren't hurting other fish, they still hit 12", which I think we can all agree is far and away too big for a 20 gallon.

Ottos may not be the best choice at algae eater for that tank, as they do prefer a well-established fishtank. Instead, you might try a bristlenose cat, as they don't really grow larger than 5", they are good algae eaters, and they look nice.

Yes bonny, most of us here in the states use L for long and not litres . The flags were put there for a reason.

I thought it meant 20 litres, too! I was just about to jump all over someone for overstocking a tank when they're nowhere near!!! Very confusing.

No, 20 litres is a small tank, the stocking list being discussed would be much, much too large for a 20 litre. Also, most Americans don't say 'litres,' we do not use the metric system. The tank is a 20 gallon long.

haha I must admit that confused me too, and its unusual for Babel to give false stocking suggestions so I was way confused.

EDIT: you should edit the title to say 20Long
