i've got a 40-45g (not really sure) tank.

i've got 5 swordtails
2 honey gourami
2 platies
1 small pleco
5 pepper corys
1 medium angelfish
11 tetras.

i want another large fish, i love cichlids what would go with what i've got. i don't mine removing any of the fish i've got now some of them are from family and i didn't really want them.
i want to keep :-
angel - quiet aggresive.
small pleco
corys
tetra

the rest can go, i'll get credit for them and get my new fish. i would like either keyhole cichlid, another angel, festivum, blue eyed or a rainbow. i've seen all these at my local shop and the leafet say small non-aggressive.

any ideas?? thanks for antything.

Well in time the angels will eat the tetras, and festivums can be aggresive. But I would go with a pair of keyholes.

Angels can get territorial when they are almost fully mature and if you already have an aggressive angelfish, and you end up with another male, you could have disputes over territory, though, on the other hand, angels are one of the best medium sized fish to keep.

Gouramis are also quite like angels, but a lot more colourful, if you like centrepiece fish.

Eventhough, I find angels and gouramis territorial towards each other, I am an avid fan of both species, so if you are ready for some fish disputes, they are a lot of fun.

At adult size, with OUT including your Pleco, your at about 46" of fish.
Your angel fish will get to 8-11 inches.

Your pleco, depending on what kind it is, can get up to a foot or more long.

Either get rid of some of your fish and take a look at what you REALLY want in this tank, and then stock appropriatly, OR get a bigger tank

I'd go with Firemouths. They can get a little cranky at times but they're the right size for a 40 and they're cool. I've got a few small angels and a pair of gouramis in with a pair of Firemouths. The squabbles seem to be only between the Firemouths.

Have fun, Mike

Firemouths will eat the tetras and will kill the small grouami when they get to their full 6-8inch size.

Firemouths are iffy and personality depends on the individual fish. Mine is a grump that hangs out in his cave. Once in a while he comes out to chase the other fish, I guess just to remind them all who's boss

You have a large enough tank to add another angel. I have unsexed pairs in two tanks without problems.

I've kept festivums in the past and found them to be very peaceful. They kept to themselves and never bothered the other fish.

Pearl gouramis are very pretty and would be a nice addition.

Keyholes can be shy at first but are curious and interesting once comfortable in the tank.

Yeah, what cory said. Also, IME, firemouths can be pretty nice characters. Angels won't neccesarily eat the tetras.

True angel wont necisarlily eat the tetras depending on wat kind they are and how big the angels are. I would recomend dwarf cichlids even tho there not that big. Or a scolofi or 2
