I just saw an Otto sucking on my flying fox! Isnt that bad? isnt that what CAEs tend to do when older or what not? I also have a question about flying foxes. Anyone know if when he gets full adult age if he will be a threat to any of my fish? hes like 4" now.

Chinese Algae Eaters do it, generally when they're older but juveniles have been known to do it too. Either way, it will cause problems when it matures. If the oto is alone, it may be a sign of aggression as they should be kept in groups.

It could also be a sign that your otto is malnourished

I did answer it - "Chinese Algae Eaters do it, generally when they're older but juveniles have been known to do it too. Either way, it will cause problems when it matures."

Thats possible. They wont eat any of my green algae for some reason, and I try to throw an algae wafer in but the angel fish eats it.

Yeah but a flying fox is a different fish then a CAE. I realize he will get more agressive over time, im just wondering if he will be too agressive for my tank (which is in my sig btw). He already chases one of the glass fish pretty bad if he comes near his caves or something.

Apologies, you mentioned CAE and I assumed it was that you were asking about. Flying foxes are territorial (in a similar way to CAE), and will quarrel with others (again, similar to CAE)... again, either way it will cause probs.

Ok now by problems do you mean fish death's and serious injuries to all fish or just chasing them out of his territory like I see now? Is there any threat to my angelfish or something that big or just the small stuff like my glassfish? Thanks for the help btw.

Don't know your tank size but you mentioned otos earlier. As flying foxes and otos share the bottom of the tank, and foxes being considerably larger, teritorial and generally have a similar apperance to the otos, there quarrelsom nature may take over - that's what I meant by problems.

By tank size, I meant dimensions - particularly length and height.

30" Long x 18" High x 12-12.5" Wide
It seems like the fox would beat the ottos, not the otto attacking a flying fox considering the huge size distance and all and ottos being extremely peacefull. Also considering ottos like their own kind I dont see why they would attack the fox like the one did. Although I can see the fox attacking them. As long as he only attacks when someone bugs him in his cave(s) I dont care. I just don't want any serious injuries or deaths. Thanks for the help.
