All that on a fluval 404. I was having a really heckting life at work, and I must admit neglected my fishes. to make a long story short, I lost all the fish except the plec (ammonia, while on buisness trip, somebody fead the plec one pellet twice a day) Ok, now I have the 90G fixed (in doubt, buy a new one), and I have the fluval 404, nd 3 AC 300. the fluval is supposedto bu good for 100G tanks, and each of the AC300 are supposed to be good for 70G each, and I have a power head plugged to a sponge filter. technically this should be good for more than a 350G aquarium. Everything is running great, but I'm wondering if there is any danger at overfiltring, I can't see why, but mabe there won't be enough ammonia for the bacrial colonies to form? anyway, I'm just wondering if I migh run into problems later on. I have about 10 malawi (1 inch each) and the 12 inch plec. in a planted aquarium. Last edited by braytag at 31-Dec-2004 11:04 |

With the cycle it's the ammonia getting into the water that matters, @this point the filters aren't actually removing anything (unless you're using some form of chemical ammonia removing). I really don't see over filtering as a problem as far as biofiltration goes, in fact the more media surfaces (foam, rings, floss, or gravel) the better. Where you would run into trouble with overfiltering is with fish that dont' appreaciate the extra water current. Of Course if I'm wrong in this, I'm sure I'll be corrected . ^_^ ![]() Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] ![]() |

You can have a lot of unnessicary filters going, but technically, not be overfiltering the tank. And, as a matter of advanced fish keeping, you can overstock your tank, as long as you keep your water changes up to date enough to keep the added nitrAtes removed. Many breeders, including myself, do this. Like Babel has stated, if your fish are OK with the higher current in the tank, then there is no problem. There is always a bigger fish... |
