awhile ago, i purchased 10 pink lemonades. i am down to a few (due to a whole-house disaster). my kids love them, but my lfs have no idea what i am talking about. shape and habits mimic black skirt tetras, but they have the coloration of an off shade of pink nailpolish. they do not appear to have been dyed (if tey were, i would not have bought them and raised hell with the lfs for selling them).
i would like to get the school back up to respectable numbers. anyone know what they are?

judging from the descriptions you've given, it's more than likely an artificially colored gold skirt tetra. the practice of coloring these fish and giving them "cute" common names isn't new. Blue and red versions exist as well and called "blueberry and strawberry tetras"

here's a picture of a naturally colored gold skirt tetra:

I recently saw some strawberry tiger barbs that didn't look dyed, just intensely red, however, they were obviously died version of albino tigers. Especially with the blueberries in the tank who were barely blue at all.

That said, with a name like "pink lemonade" I think you can be pretty sure they're dyed tetras, unfortunately. Maybe someone else will think otherwise, but I don't think it's likely

I've never heard white Gymnocorymbus ternetzi to be called "Gold Skirt Tetras", just "White Skirt Tetras". :%) Anyway, if you say they appear the same as Black Skirt Tetras in shape, than you probably are talking about dyed White Skirt tetras.

If this link shows what your fish looks like,
then it is a dyed fish.
I have however, seen some naturally coloured white skirts, that do look pinkish in certain lights (incadescent likely).
