In several recent posts, i heard that common plecos and snails like potatoes. I don't have any snails, but i have a common pleco (2-3 inches long). I want to try giving him some potato, but can it harm my other fish (platys and gouramis)?

There are lots of posts about giving fish veggies (& fruit too). I don't recall reading about potatoes, not that that matters

Anyhow I don't think it would harm your other fish. When I put veggies in the tank my platies are right in there trying to get their share; I had a blue gourami who was the same way.

My BNs like lettuce, spinach, peas, and especially broccoli. The picture speaks for itself

Anyway, the only success I have had in getting my fish to eat fruits/veggies was with zucchini...

Mine seem to like tomatoes. I take the 1/2 in or so next to the skin, make sure there are NO seeds, drop a piece in and they go nuts, just like they do over the zuchinni - mine aren't wild about peas though. Great pic! I'm going to try the broccoli.......

Zucchini is the most readily accepted in my tank.

I would be wary of potato simply because of the startch content... your water might hold bubbles more easily or 'skin over' on the surface.

My dad's goldfish love oranges and broccoli. He slices the orange, then cuts the slice so the fish can get to the pulp. They will eat it all the way down the the rind. The broccoli is the same way. Half boil the broccoli to soften it up (2-3 minutes) and serve. The goldfish and koi love it. We haven't tried zucchini yet, but from the looks of the pictures I think they would love it.

I have tried potato and Calla is right, it makes the water have a "starchy" skim on top. I wouldn't do it again, there are other veggies that are better to use. Try some partially cooked carrot, my pleco loves it, just be ready for some orange pleco doodoo.
