I want to set up my aquarium with a few dwarf puffers. I am wondering if they will do well with corys a small pleco (eventually transfered to my friends 125g tank). are there any other fish i can put with the puffers. im really fond of the glass catfish, i like how they school in groups. Are they possible to put with fresh water puffers. Any information or personla experiance would really help. when i go to the pet store to look at fish, im like a kid in a candy store but i know they wont all live together with puffers which i have my heart set on. thank you for the info. johnny |

I've had otos in my puffer tank without problems. Mine have lived with bumblebee gobies for quite a while now; they just ignore each other (the bees were kept FW at the lfs, not brackish). CeltGirl![]() Enthusiast Posts: 170 Votes: 0 Registered: 08-May-2004 ![]() | My dwarf puffer lives in my 20 gallon community tank. I had him in a ten with a few otos for a while, but when I went out of town one day, my little brother accidently broke the tank. My mom saved all of the fish and put them in the 20 gallon because there was nothing else to do with them. My 20 gallon had a school of cories, 3 yoyo loaches and some guppies, and now has 3 otos and a DP. They've been that way for over a month, and my DP has never been happier. Before the switch, he wouldn't eat anything but snails and the occasional ghost shrimp, but now he eats frozen food and the occasional shrimp pellet. His color has improved and he really seems to enjoy the company. I know he's probably in the minority, but he's very peaceful and gets on great with his tankmates. I got a ten gallon to replave the one that was destroyed, but I can't bear to move him- he's just too happy. |

Just because a fish is kept in BW at the LFS is absolutely no indication of what conditions they should be kept in. I have seen SW dogface puffers forced into BW & sold as BW fish. |

Everything in fishkeeping isn't black and white. Most of what we do has come from other peoples' experimentation, trial and error. What works for some people doesn't work for others. My DPs and bees are active, growing, non-agressive, show great color, and eat well. I certainly wouldn't take a full SW fish and try to keep it FW. But there are many people who keep bees FW successfully, meaning the fish thrive, not just survive. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
