In my 10 gallon tank I have 2 clawed frogs, one albino and one green. Well I thought that my albino one is a girl and my green one is a boy, b/c a few weeks ago I saw them breeding. But I think they are too young to actually breed yet. Well, over the last week, week and a half, i have noticed that my green one is really fat. I mean, it looks like it could blow cause it looks so fat. Its stomach is the only thing that is big. I have seen pics of frogs w/ a bacterial infection and their whole body was bloated. Is he just fat? but i mean my albino one isnt fat like it. Is it pregnant? I have no idea as whats wrong w/ it. should i be concerned? thanks so much!

I just want to ask you one question before I answer your question: Do you know how big African Clawed Frogs get??
A 10g tank is not enough even close to have 1 live in, let alone 2. These frogs will grow so large that they will only be able to turn around, barely, in a 10g tank. And being as they are amphibians, they grow rapidly. Think of a personal pan pizza....I have seen several ACF's that have a body larger than this.
As for your question, it is possible 1 is a female. I have 4 African Dwarf frogs, and the females are noticeably fatter than the males, maybe twice as fat. They also get HUGE bellies when they stuff themselves with food. Try not to feed them too much, as they do not know when to stop. They will continue to eat as long as the food is provided. Frogs are not the smartest creatures on earth! My guess would be that the fatter one is a female, possibly carrying eggs, possibly just overfed. If you see them hugging each other 1 day, then you can know for sure you have a pair.
Also, Consider buying at least a 33 Gallon tank for this pair. They will soon be needing at LEAST that much space!

thank you so much for the reply. I was getting worried that there was something wrong with her. And as for the 10 gallon tank, yes i know how big they get, about the size of a softball. I have been told by numerus people on this site that a 10 gallon tank is enough for 2 clawed frogs. They are really small now, my white one is about 4 inches long and my green one about 3 inches long. I have seen them hugging each other before, about 2 weeks ago or so. Thanks agin!

African CLAWED frogs get much larger than a softball. I really dont think you should keep them in a 10g tank. Not when they can easily reach 10 inches. I do think You should buy a 33g tank or larger for them.
African DWARF frogs can be kept in a 10g tank. Be sure you are not confusing advice on these 2 totally different species.

I am not supid... I have had clawed frogs before.. and I know plenty about BOTH kinds of frogs. I have had several dwarf frogs also.. there is a clear difference between then two. I am NOT getting confused between them.

Today when I was looking at my green one, I noticed she is as skinny as my white one now??? Did she lay her eggs somewhere? I guess they would have ate them already right? I looked around the tank and I didnt see anything. I am going to clean the tank today so I will look around.
