im thinking of trading in my 20high for a 20long but theres also a very good chance that it will be bigger say 45gallons my filtration will be like this

http://www.loaches.com/river_tank.html

i wanted to put
atleast 3 rainbws
kuhli loaches
other loaches(suggestions?)
maybe hatchetfish
angelfish?
banjo catfish
others?

also considering my tank size compared to the one in the link should i have one or two power heads? i also want the kind where the nozel goes left to right. and if i had two should i make one higher than the other? and should they turn left to right at the same time?

White clouds are river tank-ish, hardy and inexpensive too. JoePotato has a pretty nice river tank, you should ask him about it.

I really like some of those fish you chose, they are on my wanted list
If you do go with the 45 gallon you can fit angels, but with a 20long you shouldn't

I wouldn't add any knifefish at all. They will each outgrown that size tank, and will readily gobble up smaller fish.
Also, I'd forget about the "flounder". Just focus on the simpler stuff for now, until you have experience with more specialized fish.
Just so you know, rainbowfish are schooling. That means that you should have six or so, not just two or three.

Hope that helps you.

atleast 3 rainbws <--fine, rainbows aren't actually schoolers, but like the company. If you get large Irian reds, I would hesitate to get any more than three

kuhli loaches <--Ok.

other loaches(suggestions?) <--Most botias are tolerant of current/peaceful. Queens, angelicus, yo yos, and zebras are some choices that will fit in your tank.

maybe hatchetfish <--Good choice

angelfish? <--no. They HATE current.

banjo catfish <--High on my list of favorite fish. May be spooked by the botias, though.

others? <--most cyprinids should work, along with glass cats (Asian and African), plecos, and blockhead cichlids. Many river fish get a bit too large for your tank.
