	should Gars be kept in pairs or schools?
betahex Fish Addict Posts: 864 Kudos: 352 Votes: 0 Registered: 11-Jul-2001	currently, i have a very young silver gar and he's doing great. he's feeding very well and all is good. he's in a 75 gallon so he's got plenty of room. he seems happy but would he be happier with a buddy?

I'm going to assume you've actually got a Needlefish, since none of the true gars are remotely silver. I believe these fish are solitary. True gars are often kept in groups, though, and no harm done when they are. I am not sure if these completely unrelated fish will react the same way, though... These fish are characins, like tetras and piranhas, and are schoolers. TIGER9 Enthusiast Posts: 237 Kudos: 174 Votes: 1 Registered: 06-Feb-2003	i used to have a pair of hujeta gars. they did great just the two of them. imo, they would probably do better as a pair or a small school. say, no more than five. great fish, very peaceful to any fish they cant eat. but when a meal comes along, POW! absolutely lightning quick.
