Hey Thrersa I think the reason they keep on followin you home is cause they are such AWSOME and UNIQUE fish.

i always try a stick to the things i need, but to this day i've never come out of my fav store with just the thing on the list.

once i when in for food pellets for pond fish, came out with a 40g tank filters, heater and gravel, i also forgot the food so had to go back.

Well, I live in Jakarta and there are a few streets devoted to all things aquatic. Sometimes I just go on a sunday afternoon for a browse. Probelem is there's always something there that I want.Usually I resist and just walk away with a consolation Anubias.

i do go alot with something in particular in mind, such as buying filter media or whatnot. but most of the time im just on the lookout for some new n different fish, and piranhas. my lfs actually has my phone number. anytime they get in any piranha they call n leave a message of how many n what kind. half the time(if its a piranha they arent used to getting) they just want to know how much to sell it for. usually i tell them what a fair price would be. but if it were like a 16in. black piranha id be all like,"oh, how bout five bucks, and ill be there in 10 minutes"

I can't believe I'm the only one? I rarely ever go to the fish store with a huge plan, often just to see what's there and to make fantasies, and sometimes make those fantasies come true.:%)

Just a couple days ago, racso and I went and the only thing on our list was our free fish since it was the beginning of the month. Neither one of us had room for much else, nor the money for much else. So we were browsing through all the tanks as we always do... and there they were: sparkling gouramis I'd been wanting a couple for a while now, but we'd never seen them. We ended up leaving with out free platys and 4 of the gouramis. And people wonder why fishkeeping is an addiction

That reminds me... we both got female platys so we wouldn't end up being overrun with them. The girl who was netting them had NO CLUE how to sex them, nor did she have any idea how to net them!! Doh! ] The manager of that store once told us that she hires people only if they pass a quiz she gives them that covers the basic essentials of fish keeping. YEAH RIGHT!!! ]:|

I tend to fall under every choice, haha, but I don't buy a fish unless I know about it. So I don't impulse buy, unless they have a fish in I really like, know about, and is potentially on my 'stocking list.' If I run accross something 'new,' I would read up on it, make adjustments to my list, and go back.
But my stocking list changes at random, depending on what fish the LFS has or can get. But it is still a list, haha, it just has different options.

i go every week to the various lfs's in my area with a list of food raisen piranhas n mbunas n eels takes alot of food so i go for that but i have a broad based knowledge of alot of fish commonly sold so i do bring home the odd fish as well or if i see an eel or piranha i pick them up dwarf puffers to there hard to get here

Had to pick other.... My tanks are well stocked now, so my intentions when visiting my lfs are to buy food and/or supplies... However I can't seem to stop myself from "browsing" --- and only recently have gained the self-discipline from REALLY overstocking when seeing a "pretty" fish ... But should I spy a "spectacular" fish that is not common in my area, I don't know how long I would be able to refrain from purchasing!!!! Then again, a 10 gal tank really doesn't cost that much...... ]

Looking around is great, but I like to research what I'm putting in my tank. Often at the LFS they have fish that will not fit in my 55G. Though I have to admit my koi angels were an impulse buy

I just go.. the LFS closest to my house has nice fish, but alot of them are dead in their tanks.

I went there yestrday to buy clown loaches, but they were all brown, and had that skinny disease, there was about 3 dead, and one dieing.

There was a huge pile of food in front of them, and they wernt eating it.. and they seemed to like point twords the surface and like swim in the middle of the tank.

I think im just going to buy propducts there, like filters and fishtanks.

I just go to ave a look and if there something I like I will reserve it and find some info about them then go back after I found some onfo and either buy it or get me reserve back

All I normally go for is to look at all the fish and buy frozen food. If I see anything that looks interesting, I ask my trusted LFS owner about the fish, research it, and then buy it if I've got the room and necessary conditions for it...

...at least most of the time...

There's always that different Betta that catches my eye whne I know that I don't have room for any more. That's why when I'm at the lfs I try to shut my eyes when I go y the Bettas... but I end up peeking

The other day, Gartenzwerfe and I were going to a fish store to get a couple odds and ends, and we saw some Sparkling gouramis, and it was funny because we had just seen them online recently and wanted them!!!

where I come from we have a choice of 4 stores:

1) overpriced and understocked
2) EXTREMELY dirty (I'm talking - you lift a piece of driftwood or something off the floor and it's been there so long it's covered in cobwebs, dust, the odd spider, escaped cricket or beetle...) you can't see into the tanks cause they're covered in algae and everytime a fish moves it kicks up months worth of waste...
3) 'wonderful' Canadian chain store (pet******) that hires 18 year old girls who have no knowledge of fish (or any other animals in the livestock section), importes TINY fish from Thailand (like 3/4" long yellow lab cichlids...) these people carry feeder goldfish that are smaller than full grown guppies!!!
4) half decent... but never anything new...

needless to say if I want to get any fish - I have to order them in special from store #4. I do spend pretty much every weekend at the fish stores, though
