i have a 29 gallon with the following current residents:

-5 checkered barbs
-4 white clouds
-1 bolivian ram
-2 gold rams
-1 gold australe
-1 queen botia
-1 bosemani rainbow (i know they're schooling, but i rescued him from a neglectful home; he's been alone all his life)

my queen botia has taken to "pacing" the glass at one end of the tank lately, so i was considering adding some more loaches. do you think this is a solution? is the tank too full?

Well, it sounds kind of full to me but it really depends on your maintenance schedule... so, what are your water parameters like? do you test often and do regular water changes? IMO, you can push the stocking a little if you are vigilant with your water changes, etc. Although I am not familiar with a few of the species you listed so if they get really huge then you shouldn't add any more. Anyhow, I know loaches are happier when they have a few friends so you could try it, just keep an eye on your water quality.

HTH,
Beth

From what I have seen of queen botia, they are very gregarious fish, very friendly and social. I think you would do well to add a friend or two or three for her to play with.
I think that what bscal says is true, keep up on the water quality and you will be fine.

Queens do like to have friends, even one more would probably make it happier.

i am very regular with my water changes (25% at least every week-week and a half). the fish that are in there all ready are all pretty much full grown, and the largest is the rainbowfish at 4".

would the queen school with another type of loach, like a yo-yo loach in the case that i can't find another queen? that was the first time i had seen them when i bought the one i have.

thanks for the advice, you're a great help as usual!

my queen (sadly only one) does have quite a bit of fun frolicking and hanging out with my Angelicus Botia.
I want to get some more botias, I think they would all hang out together.
Perhaps not as happily as with their own kind, but definetly happier with more botia rather than none.
I hope to eventually have 4 queens, and 4 yoyos, and then my angelicus will have more friends. He is alone cuz he was a "unknown" botia that Petcetera got in and I only paid 5.99 for him. I have never seen them anywhere else, Scott- the guy at the Island Pet Zone, says they fetch around 30-40 dollars usually, and I have only seen them on one web site liveaquaria.com, fetching 32.99 a peice american dollars.
I think you would do good to perhaps add 1 more queen, and if you think you still have room, or plan to get a larger tank in the future, you could probably add a pair of yoyos as well.
Botia seem a quite clean fish to me, I dont believe they affect the bioload as much as many other fish.
Good luck and do let us know how your queen gets on with whatever friend you get her!

i'm very impressed with the queen's clean-up skills. when i gravel wash, there is literally no uneaten food! he's a little hoover maybe i'll keep my eyes peeled for another queen, and if all else fails, i can get him a yo-yo buddy

thanks!

p.s. what part of canada are you from?
