*misses how this relates to fish*

Errr well you CAN...but most turtles get to be of decent size, so I wouldn't do it for very long. Adult turtles usually require around a 55 gallon...depending on what kind they are. Temporarily I'd say he'd be okay, just as long as you know he can't be in there for ever.

I would go for 90G+ for even the smaller adults.

how big was this turtle you bought? I might mention that it is illegal to sell turtles under 4" in shell diameter. People still do it, though. (the problem with small turtles is they used to sell them little and small chidren would put them in their mouths and get salmonella)

Also, not a good idea to keep turtles in the same tank with fish. They happen to be a natural prey item of the aquatic turtles you usually see...

Except for 'educational' or 'research' reasons.....which is how, technically, most stores do it legally. The law was one of the most poorly thought out...it doesn't prevent salmonellosis, but does discourage captive-breeding.

working at petsmart atleast 5 times a week im asked the requirements for red-earded sliders. i tell them the all turtles are illegal to sell under 4" but they say theyll up grade once the turtle gets larger. i would say half the time these turtles end up in the next closest lake or river. turtles are also very very dirty and would soon harm your fish or eat them. if i were you i would just invest into another tank atleast 55usg if u want to keep this turtle long term.

goodluk
