| water changes + gravel vac | |
SheKoi![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 ![]() | i've only just changed my tank to gravel, i've had sand for years in all my tanks, i just decided on a change in my 45g. i did my first water change since tank has been changed and i noticed how difficult it is to gravel vac around the plants/rocks wich are very close together. so i was just wondering, what do people with heavily planted tanks or large rock stuctures do when gravel vac? is it just a case of vac where can and more importantly change water? www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

I have a heavily planted tank so I can comment on that... I skim along the top of the gravel to get debris off the top, but don't go " in " the gravel with the vac. I have fert tablets, etc I don't want to disturb, and any waste that gets in there will be used by the plants anyway. I keep Malasyian Trumpet Snails in the tank so they burrow through the substrate and I don't have to worry about any pockets of anerobic bacteria trapping gases and the like from not disturbing the substrate . |
