I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

I have 5 tigers and they seem to do well with the other tank mates I have in with them. See my signature below for tank size and tank mates. I have had them all together since April 2004.

OOPS...my signature seems to have disappeared.

Here is what I have:
75 gallon (4 blind cave fish, 5 tiger barbs, 4 buenos aires tetra and 2 plecos). My plecos are 6 inches already, much larger than a 2 inch tiger barb, but they all seem to get along just fine. The other fish are all pretty much the same size and temperament.

i have some other tetras like neons, glowlite etc.
the tiger barbs are pretty cool with the rest, they just ignore them.

I've had danios with tiger barbs before with no problem whatsoever. I have also seen them in the LFS with yoyo loaches and gold barbs.

Speaking of gold barbs, I was thinking of getting some of them. They would add some much needed color to my tank. I have plenty of room still, I am way understocked (which I suppose is not a bad thing).

If you go for the whole catfish look then try striped rafael catfish. They are pretty cool, with minimal requirements. Just some hiding spots and some of those wafers. They can tolerate some of the worst water conditions, though I wouldn't recomend that you do that just for fun.

and tell me where I can get one of those tigerbabes

I've got rasboras and danios and other barbs with mine. Tigers do best in schools of 7-9 or more and with other fast moving short finned species. Plenty of choices They also do well with clown loaches, if y'alls have real estate for them.

Tiger barbs with severums, parrots, tinfoil barbs, and silver dollars in a 110 gallon tank! Tough enough to school and eat the big guys leftovers.

My old man is really into community tanks, personally i think they are a lil boring! i'ma cichlid man, however he has a school of tiger barbs, only becasue when they are in low numbers they are quite aggressive.
So.. if u buy a few tiger barbs u can have practically anything with except angels! only because they have large fins!
my old man has gouramis, neons, golden widows, kuhli loaches, platys, mollies and a redtail black shark. They get along really well...
But fish is all about trial and error, sum fish work and some don't! buy some cheap fish and give it a go.

Do not mix your barbs with betas – barbs are fin-nippers!!! Trust me… I learned the hard way.
