My mom used to breed and raise assorted fish for the lfs. I had the fry tank in my room, beside the bed. (I still have a scar on my eye from where I fell out of bed and hit the tank)

Then for graduation I won a 20 gallon full set up...this went well for awhile, till I moved where I couldn't buy fish (5 hrs to the nearest lfs ]:|) and it was impossible to keep the tank filled I was losing at least 1-2 gallons of water a day to evaporation...:%)

Well, moved back to East Texas, my roommate at the time found the 20 gallon in the closet and pulled it out and cleaned it up one day while I was at work...so we set it up...It was up and down for awhile...pumps and filters were old and would die...

Then well, the 20 led to a 10 with a few platies, and another teacher gave me a bunch of guppy fry, so I needed another 10, then well, I needed to 29...then, yikes the 20 gallon sprung a leak, and I needed a 55 to replace it for the Goldies...then a new classroom and well, we need a class pet...

Can someone help me I need some counseling:%)I want another tank...and that 300 gallon sounds great...

My friend gave me a spare 5 gallon aquarium that sat in our basement for a long time. My son wanted a fish, so I did some research and decided on a betta for it. But my research introduced to me to the world of aquariums and I realized that this was a pretty cool hobby. Now our betta tank is joined by a 75 gallon aquarium that I am slowly stocking. Bettas are like the "gateway drug" of this addictive hobby.

my dad bred koi, and when i was 5 he gave me three show-standard koi and a pond of their own to maintain - he showed me the ropes, and i learned by observing and reading copious amounts of information. first aquarium age 7, and now, 26 years later, i can happily say i have never been without fish in my life. the current 6footer
(i live in a small apartment - proportionally the fish have SO much more room than me!!!) is a slice of the south american river systems with hatchets, diamonds, cardinals, rummy-noses, royal whiptails and dwarf cockatoo cichlids...bliss! the tv doesn't go on much in my house.

Deja vu all over again.

OK, my grandfather started keeping tropical aquaria in 1932 (at one time having a fish room consisting of over 100 tanks), and continued to do so until his death in the late sixties. My father caught the bug from his father and started keeping his own tanks in the early 1950's...and kept up with the hobby until his death in 1986. Growing up in a house full of tanks, it just came naturally to me, and I was given my first tank (all my own) in 1971, and have been keeping multiple tanks since then. My daughter got her first tank (a 40 gal dwarf Tanganyikan tank) 2½ years ago, and is reasonably passionate about the hobby, so in a little under 3 decades, my family should see an unbroken run of a century of aquariums.

My mom kept fish for a dozen years or so when I was younger (this was a decade or so ago) and I always loved watching the fish. She is also allergic to anything with fur, so my dreams of kitties and puppies were not to be fulfilled.

Almost two years ago, I bought my sister a betta for her dorm room. A few months later, I bought myself one. A year and a half later, I have six two-gallon betta tanks, a five gallon mini-bow, a ten gallon and a twenty gallon long. I'm obsessed with bettas (the girls more than the guys, actually) and need more (bigger!) tanks for my fish. The ten gallon is overstocked thanks to guppy breeding (there was NOT supposed to be a male in there) and I'd love to put even more betta girls into my community tank.

A few rescues (a completely mangled betta boy that my sister now has and a fry from a disgusting breeder box at an LCPS) have cemented my obsession almost as much as the diverse personalities of my bettas. I wish I had more time to spend with my fishies...

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

as long as i can remember i have loved to play in the minnow buckets, chasing the fish with my fingers u know. then we started going t oa beach, and i could sit in the water and have the little fish nibble my toes, that seemed more fun than swimming. when i was old enough i would get into netting them. but then i got a 10 for christmass and that started the obession

Hmm, lets see, I had a 10 gallon that was my responsibility when I was 13, but I was more interested in going fishing than fish. Then, I got a job at the number one fish farm in the U.S.A. and got sucked in by Discus and Koi. After getting my degree in aquaculture I'm convinced fish are the superior species and I'm amazed at how many girlfriends I lose by having dates at the aquarium.

A science fair project in Grade School involving creating colour strains in Guppies. By the time I was 16 I do remember having a nice colour strain but more interested in the human females.

I left the hobby when I was turning 17 and never returned until 1998. Deep down inside, I missed having a Gourami or some sort of fish as a decorative part of my house.

Someone gave me a bushel of Hygrophila and a Amazon Sword, which grew to an addiction with planted tanks and more serious fish keeping. I now own the following;

19GAL "Tropicana" Hi-End Plants
35GAL "Barb Tank" my Barb Biotope
53GAL "Colombian Biotope" still under construction
55GAL "Sunken Zen" my first Aquascaping attempt

When I was little my parents had a 10 gallon guppy tank with metal frames and a slate bottom. Yes, that was several years ago. One summer I netted a little catfish and brought him home to keep in a 5 gallon tank. I had him for several years 'til the cat decided to take him for a walk.
I recently got back into aquariums by wintering my pond pleco. I got a 55 gallonfor him, but the wife didn't like it and made me get a 300 gallon and custom build it into a dividing wall. Now I couldn't stop even if I wanted to. Can't move either.

When I was two my parents had a large tank which I kept my face and handprints on... used to stare at it for hours they said.... We must not have had a television???

Anyway, I don't really recall that, at age 8 I did the horrible goldfish in a bowl thing, and stopped as soon as they died. It was feeder goldfish my mom had bought me.

A couple years ago I bought a ten gallon tank, after I quit drinking to give me something to do. From there I got a 29 gallon tank when I found out my ten gallon was overstocked... then I found out about putting fish in quarantine so I needed a tank for that... and then I won a contest for a bunch of aquatic plants ( and I mean a bunch), so of course I needed a 75 gallon to house them.. then co2 injection, and wouldn't a ph controller be nice, and ........................a dozen tanks later and I'm still looking for what furniture I can get rid of to fit more tanks in this apartment. The couch already went out the back door - never liked that couch anyway...

I grew up with it. One of my earliest fish keeping memories are helping dad with several hundred angelfish fry. Since then, I've had an obsession with them....and trying to breed them.
