i am tired of hearing about a friend of a friend who has such and such fish that is sooo many years old. same with the books saying "this species can live a long life in the aquarium."

how old is your oldest fish? what kind is it? does it have any personality quirks, or a personal name?

I have 5 old fish.

2 Kuhli loaches
2 corys
1 common pleco

They are all 15 years old.

I also have 2 clown loaches that are 14 years old.

My gourami and YoYo loach are about 6 years old, and most of my corys are 6-7 years old.

I have a red serpae that is almost 3 years old. Not sounding too impressive, right? Well what if I told you I bought it at WalMart? I originally bought 6 of them and all but the remaining one died within a week. Since then he has been moved to different tanks I think around 5 times. Racso and I have dubbed him "Grandpa" His black spots are barely noticable anymore.

The oldest fish I'm sure of are a Kuhli Loach and a Pleco. Both of them are 5 years old.

How big are the 14 year old Clown Loaches? I have seven and my biggest is about 6 inches but I have no idea how old he is.

Mine, the five year old, is 9 inches long. Don't ever buy a common pleco, they get big and rowdy but I'm stuck with this one because we bought it for my son along with the Kuhli and a tank and some other fish that have since expired for his 7th birthday. That pleco will probably live forever but it goes with when he moves out.

My common pleco is about 12" maby 13"

One of my old clown loaches are around 8-9" and the other is about 7"

I have heard that my oldest corys can live to be about 24, i think common plecos live to be 20 years old, and clown loaches are usually advertised as living for 15 years.

Wow, my common plecos have a while to get to where you all are at. Mine are just babies yet, they are maybe 4 inches long (but have grown considerably since we got them a few months ago). They were real tiny then, maybe 2.5 inches. They seem to grow in leaps and bounds. They both eat like piggies. What, they will get rowdier? Oh no! Mine are already nuts at feeding time, they get real protective of the sinking pellets.

My 9 incher started trying to push the Oscar around as soon as I put them together. The pleco was about 6 inches then as was the Oscar. Before that he was in with the Clown loaches and would move in on whatever niche or cranny he wanted, displacing the fish that was there. As soon as I saw that I moved him in with Oscar. So I guess he was about 6 inches long.

My oldest are 3 common goldfish that I got for 25 cents each almost 6 years ago. They share my pond with 3, 5 year old shubukins and their offspring.

Well I am sure you guys are not going to believe this, but I had a Rainbow shark that was 11. It gets more interesting! At the time my shark shared the tank with my dads fish and he got rid of the fish and tank due to other reasons..Well the Rainbow (rocky..hehehe) at last I heard was 14 years old...he survived everything! Wish I could have kept him longer...Not sure how much longer he mad it since 14, because that was 5 years ago! His personality? He HATED my Skunk Loach!!! And he also enjoyed nipping the female Jack Dempseys fin when she wasn't looking! Mean little guy...
