How about 5 or 6 of either Gold Dust Danios and/or Hatchetfish (silver or marbled). Neither species are tight schoolers but both are very active, somewhat unusual looking and prefer the mid to top levels of the tank. Mine live with mollies and blue gouramis with no problems.

I wouldn't recommend putting a male betta in that tank. They really don't seem to do well in community tanks. I'm sure he would get nipped somehow. Bettas seem to take any reason to get sick. It just wouldn't be a very good idea.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

My belted barbs (profile) are the best schooling fish I've ever had. Great red coloring, max size 2", not nippy at all. Problem is they don't seem to be very readily available.

just thinking would 1 male betta fit in this tank? Would anything nip it? Im guessing it would be pretty sweet?

But i heard betta's don't enjoy stong current flow, so yeah this might discount the idea of getting a betta.

Cheers

You really should get at least 5 more harlies. You owe it to the little guy to get him some friends.

Put in a nice big cory school, or maybe a couple different ones. Not only will it help clean the tank, but those little guys look good, too.

i don't know about the hatchetfish, they both jump, the silver can jump up to 4ft . So yeah i don't want to be hearing fish jump into my hood everynight/day.

And i can't find much info on the gold dust danio's.

but yeah an angel would be a pretty decent centrepiece. I wouldn't think the RTBS would bother it. So now i've really just got to figured out a good schooling fish.

By the way keep the suggestions coming

Details, 55usgal

Tank occupants atm: 2 red wagtail platy's, 1 Bristlenose, 1 harlequin, 1 RTBS.

I will be getting four or five more harlequins.

So yeah just give me your suggestions of what YOU would put in there. And please no tiger barbs, i got 27 of them already

Cheers boys and girls

what about an angelfish?

if buy it young it should be ok with the tetras, the harlies are to wide anyway. it will also help keep the number of platy fry down so not over run.
not sure how angel will be with RTBS could see problem my self.
if not angel howabout a pair of dwarf gouramis.

rummy-nose tetras are good for schooling fish... if you want another school get like 10 rummy-noses... not over-common, but look great (my mom wants to get more some time, but I want to try something else) and are really active and school tightly...

well i sense a common theme here, gouramis. I would probably rather a large school of something, but i only want 6 harlequins.
Also i would love a centerpiece fishy. Any suggestions?

So what im really looking for is a large school other then my harlequins, and a centrepiece fish.

So yeah keep em coming pretty please
