My first fish was a betta. I had him for about a year before I got any other fish and a bigger tank. When I got my 29 gallon, the first fish I got for it were 4 gold barbs followed by my favorite fish...the Dojo Loach!

When I was younger I, like everyone else had 2 goldfish in a small bowl. They actually lasted about 3-4 years.

Then a 2 years ago I got a 29 gallon and started with Platys.

Know I have 5 tanks and am thinking of joining a 12 step program

first came my own outdoor pond with koi, then goldfish inside in a 2ft tank, then tropicals - i think platies were first, and bang, here we are 28 years later, having never been fishless in that time.

When I was a kid I remember my Dad had either a 10 or 20 gal. All I remember that was in it was a betta and a white goldfish "Snow White", I know there was more but those are the two that sick in my mind. I don't remember the tank being around for more than a couple of months.
Fast forward 25 years and I got myself a 10 gal tank and a betta. Not long after that my Brother and SIL got a 55 gal and just started buying a bunch of fish. I got a call one day to see if I wanted 5 fish that were nipping the fins off the other fish (tiger barbs). The Betta came out of the 10 gal for a few days until I could buy a larger tank for the barbs...the start of MTS. My Brother teases me about all the tanks I have but I guess if anyone is to blame, its him.

I used to be Snow White, but I drifted.

We had a tank when i was a little kid but i dont remember any of the fish. Later down the line my sister won a small white cloud i think it was and we put it in tap water and it acually lived for a few weeks. We feed it bread and did all the things you were not supposed to do boy that was a strong fish. Its lived in a water jug we couldnt afford a tank back then..... Now my first tank I owned was about 6 months ago i brought zebra danios who are now parents and still multiplying.

Well, from what I remember, my first fish were two angels (koi, I think?) two rainbow sharks, and 2 bronze cories. The one I remember the most was the one rainbow shark that lived for 10 years maybe 11 with me, but we got rid of him due to my dad getting out of the hobby. The guy was huge and seemed to live through everything! I always wonder what happened to him when we gave him away!

We've always had a fish tank in our house-- usually the cliche'd neon tetras, corydoras and black mollies.

My first fish that belonged to ME came upon me a little over a year ago when my nephew and sister moved out, leaving a poor little betta in a tiny cup behind. I took him as my own fishie and got addicted. My first tank was a 30 gallon high that my brother used for his chinese water dragon before it died (he never cleaned that poor thing's cage). I had different kinds of gouramis in there.

I brought home a plain guppy in a paper cup about 45 years ago. She gave birth in less than two weeks and I was hooked.

Hmm... mom kept fish years ago, I don't know what was first, but I do remember a blue gourami (maybe a dwarf? I dunno...), zebra danios (and one pearl that got mixed in with them)... hmm... not sure what else, though mom always goes on about platties, though I don't remember them.

I do remember that I brought home the class pet one summer, which was a red betta. I'm pretty sure he went right into the top tank (I think we had a ten and a fifteen, then 15 on top of a dual stand) with the danios.

Anyway, my mom got rid of her tanks probably a dozen+ years ago and we were without pets for ages (she's allergic to most things with fur). I bought my sister a betta almost two years ago to the day. My own betta was purchased a few months after that. Happily, both are still alive and kicking today.

As for my bigger tanks, the ten gallon started off about a year ago with golden zebra danios. The twenty gallon long was started with female bettas, who remain my favorite to this day.

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~
