Hey, I am using a 5.5 gal aga tank for some LR and a clean up crew. Nothing else for the time being. I have it sectioned of into a 12"x8" display area and a 4"x8" sumparea. The main point of the sump is just for the water circulation, and to have a heater in. I am currently deciding between using sand or a starboard bottum. Pics to come sometime soon.

I've been wanting to do a nano type tank for a while. What pump are you using for the circulation? I'd say a MJ 1200 would be pretty good. What are you doing for lighting? Any plans for corals down the line? What are your plans for topoffs?

hmm...this is the first time in a while I've seen a post in here without any questions, so I had to make up for that with my own.

Pics, pics/:'

The pump is the powerhead I had when I was origionaly doing this for a nano tank. Its a Rio 90. Maxes out a around 80 GPH. Over one of the fittings I was able to get a 1/2 inch peice of vynal tubing. The lexan dividing the sections will have a hole drilled, and the tubing will stick out. I will most likely replace it, but it will work for the time being. Lighting will probably be a coralife 12" 2x18 watt light fixture. I will probably get some zoanthid polyp or GSP frags from my neighbor eventualy if all goes well. For topoff, I will probably have a jug of some sort higher then the water level doing a slow drip into the tank, eventualy to be replaced my a float switch if I have space in the sump. I post pics right now if they are all resized.

Well, I have sand and water in the tank, but i also have....SALT! I added a little to much sand so my spacific gravity is around 1.024-1.025. Temp is stable at around 78 degress. I might add some of my live rock today.

Did you add too much sand or too much salt. I'm not sure how too much sand would raise the specific gravity. Besides, 24 or 25 is better than a lower sp gravity for inverts and such.

Hi there, I've been trying to start something like this for a while to, it's been running a couple of months now with a 22g tank.

Today I got my 1st starfish, after a couple of hermits and a turbo snail have been living in there a month.

I've just taken a pic, and I think he looks ace. sorry about the huge pic, i dont know how to shrink them

What kind of fish are you getting in this tank?

Im not planning on putting any fish in this tank. At 5.5 gallons, it will be hard to maintain a safe enough level for fish. It can be done, but im already planning on corals, and fish would be on more thing to feed. With a small tank I dont want to have non eaten food breaking down into detrius and makign it harder for me to keep the water clean. There as some inverts and coral I can put in there that will be cooler than a fish in there. I plan to add a   shirp or another shrimp. Along with another blue legged hermit. I will also add some snails as well. Then for corals probably GSP's and zoanthids. Maybe some mushrooms.

How about a Coral crab or something? And when you say too dangerous you mean by nitrate right?

Yeah, I dont want to nitrate levels getting to high, I am already going to have to struggle to keep them pretty low. There still a chance for a small fish like a clown goby. But I am going to wait a while to make sure I can keep up with the tank as it is.
