For a BTA its pretty common for them to retreat to a cave and set their foot. Once they are comfy and if tank parameters are good then will normally be happy and content with their foot in the cave and they will extend their tentacles out into the open.

Some questions

Water parameters?
Lighting?
Tank size?

Yup, like Nate's already said, it's pretty normal for your BTA to go wandering until it's acclimated to your tank and finds itself a nice place to set it's foot..

Dependant on your lighting, it could just be acclimating and will slowly extend itself once it's become accoustomed to the changes that were made when it left your store's holding tank..

My BTA settled in after it's first nite in the tank, but it didn't begin to come out from under the ledge for about another week or so.. Holding tanks at my store run VHO, whereas I run MH.. Took it some time, but it's definately been fun to watch now that it's out in the open..

Good Luck to you..

Everything sounds fine...Its most likely just adjusting to the tank and will extend once it gets comfy

Are you only running one halide over a 4ft tank?
