I am looking at ordering an RO unit tonight. My choices are the Kent Marine system or the Coralife system. The Kent Marine unit is 10 bucks more. Which is better? Why?

I really dont like either of them.....Never heard of the coralife one, and the kent one you end up spending more money once you get the shut off for it....if you dont have the shut off then it keeps producing waste water if you have it hooked up to a float valve.

I recommend the Spectrapure units myself. Ive been using one for almost a year now with perfect water coming out of it. Constant readings of 0 TDS.

I'd stay away from both of those as well.

The marine labeled systems tend to be over priced and underperforming.

I've heard the spectrapures are very good, but a bit pricey. Either way, I'd ratehr have a quality unit.

No, but they come highly reccomended for people with larger tanks.

For me, I buy RO at the LFS or I use distilled water. But, since my tank is only 15ga, I don't need much water. I would suggest them for people with 30ga+ tanks for sure. Lugging that much water around is not worth it to me.

The Coralife unit is not that bad for the price. Plus, I don't think Coralife is going anywhere soon.

Well, I guess having your own RO unit isn't really necessary, but I would say without a doubt that using RO water is almost 100% necessary. Whether you get it at the LFS, or have your own unit, you really should use it. It's really about convience for you. In the long run, a RO unit of your own will probably be cheaper.

I currently use Walmart R/O water......Quit laughing it's good water. The label says its R/O and DI purified plus the add Calcium carbonate to it.Lugging the water stinks so I will get a unit soon but this is still a good alternative.
