I was looking at the books recommended here on FP for different things, and under diseases I didn't see one specifically for SW fish, is there any that are recommended?

I have one, that I find to be very infomative.

"Diseases in Marine Aquarium Fish", by Gerald Bassleer.

It is however, currently out of print, as he is writing an updated version, that will have more in it.

Thanks, I'll keep checking back, you wouldn't happen to know when the new one is coming out, would you?

No. But you might look at some lfs if you have any that do used books. I have a couple that do. Also, you might get on a waiting list for the new copy, or even a used copy at http://www.amazon.com

Direct link;

Now you are in to my library . I know you are asking about Marine, and some of these do crossover to some extent, especially the first.

I have the following books and I'll provide links to those still available. I got almost all from Amazon.com. Some are quite reasonably, while others are very expensive.

The first is the most expensive and quite a read. It is chock full of pictures of fish disease, marine and freshwater, yet the average person may get lost in the high level of techno-babble. It is written by Edward J. Noga, Professor of Aquatic Medicine at N.C. State.

The second is by Dieter Untergasser, and Peter Burgess - two more good names in fish care. The problem I have with this book is that it was written in Europe where meds that are common in the US are not available. Therefore, what they use alternatives that may not be as necessary here. But, it is still a good read. Both this book, and the one above get into microscopy with details on how to perform necropsies and biopsies.

This next one is fairly new on the market and is an update of a book written by Dr. Neville Carrington, w hich is no longer in print. I was pleased to see they came out with an updated version. It is co-authored this time by some food names, including Dr. Chris Andrews and Adrian Exell. This book is economical too, without being too technical. Once again, this book, written by Europeans, does not necessarily provide comments on meds readily available in the US.

Some of the best information on fish health is within other books. One case, recommended to me by a member here, is called the Fishlopaedia. What a fine, fine book, with plenty of health care details. Its only problem is that it lacks pictures for better identification. Here is that one, also economical. What is so great about this book is that it answers many questions other books don't, like moving your fish when you sell your house. Its loaded with outstanding tips of all kind.

There are others, but I'll leave you with one more that is so good, that even tho it focuses on Goldfish, I highly recommend it to any, freshwater fishkeeper. It has pretty detailed info on fish disease and treatment, as well as general care like the book above. Fancy Goldfish is co-authored by Dr. Erik Johnson, the renouned koivet, and Richard E. Hesse:

Hope this helps .

Oh - and why not check your local library for these titles so you can see if you want to spend the money. Note that you can find used ones at Amazon, as well.
