Some clownfish owners have reported seeing that their clowns would take food of some sort and plop it into their host anemone. I don't believe this behavior has been observed in the wild though, at least not to my knowledge. |

These guys are photosynthetic, and like many corals obtain much of their energy from a light source. Feeding them with fish or whatnot isn't quite as important as a lot of folks think. |

Anemones and corals should be fed regularly. Phytoplankton works well for corals, and small fish work relatively well for anemones. To my knowlege, the only coral that can live without an outside food source is the Xenia, which is a rather hardy coral by almost all means (except in matters of shipping). I'm not saying that I totally disagree with you, Nick, but I am saying that these creatures do need regular feedings. I'm not sure how important 'a lot of folks' it is, but judging by the sound of it, apperantly it's more than you feel is needed. Though it may not be an absolute necesity to feed corals and anemones frequently, it is fun to watch But this is all ba Anyway, just my $0.02 |

I observe that the general public (not anybody here) believes that sea anemones snag and eat live fish for their sole source of food, which is just not true. Meaty stuff isn't used as much as light, which is why anemones won't thrive in tanks with low light output. There are probably some exceptions to the rule, anemones which are nonphotosynthetic, but the popular aquarium species I know of all use photosynthesis. |
