I recently purchased a fish under the name clown goby. It had a blue-ish green head, a dark blue body, and tan fins. After about 24 hrs. I found him dead on the bottom of the tank. Making a good meal for my hermit crabs, much to my dismay. It was properly acclimated to the water, but didn't feed on the hikari (dead) brin shrimp I feed my Clown fish. When i put it in the water, it instantly hid in the crevace of a rock. I have a feeling it wasn't to healthy to begin with, but would like to know what they eat in case I get another. Thanks!

There are only four clown gobies I know of; the yellow, black, green and citron. None of which fit your description. Nothing came to mind with your description either... I'd suggest looking around at some species ID sites to get a match, there's lots of gobies out there.

I found this picture online. This is basically what the goby looked like with a few differences.

http://www.akwarystyka.com/sklep/images/fullsize/produkty/morska/zywe_zwierzeta/ryby/blenides/Gobiod_histrio.gif

1. Eyes were whiter
2. Fins seemed tanner
3. No stripes

It was just over an inch long.

My LFS called it a green clown goby and this is supposedly a photo of Gobiodon Histrio which I'm assuming is the same thing although it lacks the red stripes that I've seen in other photos.

Anyway, my first posting still stands, this is just clarification about what it looked like.

Well that is the same body style of the other clown gobies. I have a yellow, that has done real well for me, so I don't think it's a question of a hard animal to keep, which is what I was trying to figure out.

Mine will eat anything I put in the tank, he/she is not picky whatsoever. Mysis, brine, cyclopeez, flake, freeze dried goodies....you name it. Doesn't even seem to matter if it fits in its mouth or not.

The other questions I had for you to maybe determine cause of death were the normal tank parameters; nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, pH, salinity, and anything else you might know. Also, how big is the tank, how long has the tank been set up, and what are the other inhabitants? You mentioned acclimating it, but how, and how long?

Now to the more likely questions since you said you acclimated it, and it died relatively quickly, how long was it at the LFS....if you got it locally, and was it eating there that you know?
