So, my 44 has been running very nicely with three green chromis and one firefish. I added a bangaii cardinal a month and a half ago, and he's wonderfully active, but he forced Runya, the firefish, into hiding. I get back from vacation and Runya has died of starvation!

Well, it seems Scotty (the bangaii, I won't type his full name here) frightened him into not eating. I wasn't here to keep an eye on him.

So. I would like to know what SINGLE fish (I obviously don't have enough room for a school) I could put into the tank to replace him, something a little less shy than poor Runya? A lemonpeel angel, perhaps? Does anyone know much about clown chromis? I want some color, as all I have is three greens and a monochrome.

Ah, Runya...

I'm so adjective, I verb nouns!

A lemonpeel is not reef safe, if that's a factor or not, I'm unsure.

I'm sorry to here about your firefish though. That is sad. I have never actually seen a bangaii act agressively towards another fish, so that seems kind of odd to me.

Why not try a flame angel or coral beauty? Both have vibrant corals and interact well with the tank.

I do like coral beauties...
Scotty (the bangaii) wasn't acting overly aggressive; just for some reason my firefish became very shy after he was introduced. Stumped me, too.
I do not currently have a reef (just a FOWLER) though I plan to upgrade in a year or so...
Thanks for the reply.

A Coral Beauty would be a very pretty choice for your tank, but be aware that they are not always "reef safe" either.. They can be hit or miss when it comes to whether or not they'll suit a reef tank.. I've not had problems with the Coral Beauty I keep in my tank, but I always keep an eyeball on him just in case he decides to change his mind about snacking on my goodies..

Have you looked at Royal Grammas?? They've got plenty of color to them, are hardy and are usually fiesty enough to take care of themselves without being trouble makers..

Good Luck to you, and I'm sorry to hear about your Runya..

Since I added my Baby Tang and my Half Black Angel my Firefish only comes out to feed if at all.I didn't see him for four days after I added the last tank mate. The other fish do not bother him but he's still way shy!

I agree with Oleta. Coral Beauties are so cool and very hardy. Mine had scrathed it's eye on a rock a month ago and healed in about a week. Great fish.

P.S. Glad to be back on Fishprofiles regularly again.(I was on vacation and was depressed about my s/w tank w/ the Coral Beauty not feeding for a month and its eye and all. But she's feeding now; on flakes and frozen food!!!)
