Hey,

Today, I noticed my Coral Beauty Angelfish has gotten a film like covering on it's eye.(just like when a fish get's cloudy eye. I've had the fish in my tank for 1 week tomorrow w/o any problems except it hasn't been eating the food offered to it(frozen Mysid and Brine Shrimp and flakes), but has been picking off the Liverock. Besides having the film like cover on its eye, the Angel is acting like it has been for the past week, going in and out of the Liverock and swimming around the tank. The other fish, a Cinnamon Clownfish, seems healthy. My specific gravity is 1.023 and I am awaiting a water test from Petco. I think the cause of the film eye is that the Angel may have brushed its eye on some Liverock. I'm not sure what to do,so ideas on how to treat the fish will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

P.S. I didn't put this in the Hospital forum because all of the threads are about freshwater fish.

I would just make sure the water quality remains high and keep a close eye on it. Usually healthy fish can recover without too much trouble. Try adding some garlic to the food to see if you can boost appetites in the tank and be patient. If anything else happens then more may be required, but most of the time fish can heal on their own.

Thanks Raider, I got the water tested and the pH is at 8.2 and everything else is at 0. Would a water change be beneficial??

Greg,

My coral beauty had the same problem.. One day shortly after I got him and his left eye had clouded over.. I found this link when I was researching, so maybe it can help you figure out what is happening to your fish.. I also did some reading at WetWebMedia in regards to cloudy eyes and they've got a wealth of information if you'd like to check there..

For mine I was concerned that perhaps the eye had received some kind of injury during shipping so I didn't do any kind of treatment other than a few water changes and feeding more regularly with food that had been soaked in Zoe.. I don't know if the Zoe helped, but I figured the added vitamins and what not that the Zoe provided would help build up it's strength.. The fish is now doing really well and it's eye cleared without having to dose the tank with any medication..

Good Luck with yours..

Thanks Oleta, I narrowed it down to b),d),e), and g) on that site. Not sure which one though because my Coral Beauty is too quick for me to get a good look at it. I'd hate for it to die since she is bonding with my Cinnamon Clownfish; sometimes they swin against eachother. Oleta, how long did it take for your Corak Beauty to heal?

Not very long.. Just about a week or so for the eye to uncloud after I noticed it..

I can sympathize with how hard it is to get a good look too.. Mine never wanted to stay still long enough for me either.. It didn't help that it was practically brand new in the tank when it happened.. I finally just had to plant myself in front of the tank and wait for it to stop darting into the rocks whenever it saw me.. Food and a little patience and it should come around to the front long enough for you to see him..

Sorry but read this thread and had to thank the moderator for alerting my attention to the link regarding eye diseases. I have now identified a problem that my Cowfish is having. Thanks again.
